Cathedral of Beauvais, highest stone arch in the world, once had a spire at 500 ft., the first human structure higher than the Great Pyramid of Egypt. At least check out Banistar Flethcher's HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE ON THE COMPARATIVE METHOD.
