Remigius
bishop; d. 1092.
Remigius was a monk of Fécamp in Normandy who was appointed bishop of Dorchester, England, in 1067, by William the Conqueror. After 1075 the see was removed to Lincoln, where it could be under the protection of the castle then being constructed. He began at once to build his cathedral, which was completed in 1094. Of this original Norman building almost the entire western front remains and the lower stories of the western towers.
