| 1 May Schinkel leaves Berlin accompanied by J. G. Steinmeyer, the son of a client, for a two-year study tour of Saxony, Austria, Istria, Italy, Sicily, and France. In October he arrives in Rome and meets Wilhelm von Humboldt. He also becomes acquainted with the Austrian history painter, Joseph Anton Koch (1768-1839). Drawings, letters, and diaries relating to this trip are preserved in the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, DDR. |
