The 'Catalogus' of Il Campo Marzio dell'antica Roma lists all the edifices deliniated throughout the Ichnographia Campus Martius, along with the literary sources respective of each edifice, thus providing proof as to the ancient existence of each edifice. Ara Neptuni in Circus Flaminio, Altar of Neptune at the Circus of Flaminius, is among the items listed within the Catalogus' first page. Piranesi did indeed delinieate an Altar of Neptune at the Circus of Flaminius, but the altar is only present within the Ichnographia's first state and deleted from the Ichnographia's second state. |
