A Quondam Piranesi Style

Plan of the Palatin Hill as rendered by Giovanni Battista Piranesi in 1756.

Plan of the Palatin Hill as rendered by Giovanni Battista Piranesi in 1756 superimposed with a plan of the lower floor of part of the Palace of the Caesars as rendered by Francesco Piranesi in 1787.

There is a thirty-one year gap between Giovanni Battitsta Piranesi's plan of the Palatine Hill and Francesco Piranesi's plan of the part of the Palace of the Caesars. The elder Piranesi was thirty-six years old when he published his plan of the Palatine Hill, and died 9 November 1778 (aged 58). The younger Piranesi was twenty-eight or twenty-nine years old when he published his plans of part of the Palace of the Caesars, and running the business he inherited from his father for nine years at the time.
