| The temple of Vulcan. A temple of Vulcan existed in 214 B.C. and as late as the first century. Its exact site is not known, but it was near the boundary between the circus Flaminius and the campus Martius proper. The reason why this temple was outside the pomerium is given by Vitruvius: (ut) Volcani vi e moenibus religionibus et sacrificiis evocata ab timore incendiorum aedificia videantur liberari.
