Jean Marot
architect and engraver; b. (at Paris) about 1620; d. December 15, 1679.
Marot built the portal of the Feuillantines and numerous residences in Paris. With Lemercier, he made plans for the completion of the Louvre, which were never executed, but are engraved in his book. Marot is known by his architectural engravings, the greater part of which were collected in his Architecture française ou Recueil des plans, élévations, coupes et profiles des églises, palais, hôtels et maisons particuliers de Paris, etc. (The number of plates varies in different copies.) He published also Le Magnifique château de Richelieu.
