Francione (Francesco di Giovanni)
wood worker (intarsiatore), architect, and engineer; b. 1428.
In 1487 he assisted La Cecea in building the fortress of Sarzana, Italy. A "Franciscus Johannis carpentarius Florentinus," who in 1458 built the catafalque of Calixtus III (Pope 1455-1458), is doubtless the same person. He was the instructor of Giuliano and Antonio da San Gallo (I).
