Outside the porta Collina, and probably west of the via Salaria, was a temple of Venus Erycina, which was vowed in 184 B.C. by the consul L. Porcius Licinus during his Ligurian campaign, and dedicated three years later. It was surrounded by a portions, and lasted as long as the empire. It has been suggested that this temple may possibly be identified with that of Venus hortorum Sallustianorum. (Platner) |
