ICA/dream institution
...a 3-D revival of the Institute of Contemporary of Art project. ...use the basic concept for the building and enhance it programmatically by making it a dream institution/residence. ...the studio/gallery/museum/residence dreamed of in the past. ...another extension of a personal virtual realm...

and speaking of gallery...
Venue, the art gallery I owned and operated 1993-94, was located within the first floor front of 1732 Spruce Street, just a half block south of my Institute of Contemporary of Art thesis site.

The New ICA. ICA Unveils Diller + Scofidio's Dramatic Museum Design
My thesis project (Temple University Architecture Program 1981) was a new building for the Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art. It took up most of the block on the south side of Rittenhouse Square (Street) between 17th and 18th Streets, just behind the Philadelphia Art Alliance. The ICA building's design comprised a collage of various building types, inspired by Kahn's Convent for the Dominican Sisters and Stirling's Science Center in Berlin, in the flavor of a virtual museum of architecture you could say.

Thesis Semester [blog] 25 years ago
The first thesis studio crit was, well, a success. It was with Guida, and within a half hour he took everything I showed him, quickly assimilated it all, and then in one sentence--"You can put the galleries below grade, and do that with the rest of the program on top."--he conclusively inspired my project's whole parti.
"Wow. That's the building."
Ever since I saw Guida's design of the Kasperson Residence (Mitchell/Giurgola Architects, 1979), I knew he had an affinity for Kahn's Fisher House--there's no denying a good reenactment when you see one--so I felt sure he would be favorably responsive when I told him I would like to emulate Kahn's Motherhouse of the Domincan Sisters paradigm. That's the "that" when he said, "...and do that with the rest of the program on top."
