Concept that made your heart sing

One of the directives that Salk gave to Kahn was: design an institute to which he, Salk, would be proud to invite Picasso. (Salk was married(?) to one of Picasso's exes.) Would that count as the concept of Salk Institute? Is that why it's "perfection"?
There is indeed a published photograph of Picasso at Salk Institute.

So, what is the concept of Salk Institute?

the concept of transforming the Villa Savoye into the Palais des Congrès

Judging by how many millions of people there are on this planet that build, or the many thousands to have graduated with degrees in industrial design, your personal history doesn't exhibit any singular accomplishments at all. You're hardly a standard to go by. Is there anything you have done within the realm of architecture that no one else has?

We never compared anything. What of yours was ever compared with something of mine? Generally, I'd prefer to have nothing to do with you, and whatever comparison you're speaking of was all in your own head. You make it up and then you lie about it. My accomplishments within the realm of architecture have nothing to do with you and certainly are not measured by using you as a standard. Essentially, you and your work are meaningless to me and my work. For example, the grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts received by quondam and another web site for a joint internet project 21 years ago has nothing to do with you. Just as the grant from the National Endowment for the Arts received by Arcadia Architectural Cad Services and the Philadelphia City Planning Commission for a joint 3-dimensional computer model zoning/planning project 31 years ago has nothing to do with you.

And, of course, my becoming a Registered Architect in the State of Pennsylvania 26 years ago has nothing to do with you.

Your obsession with me is a waste of time. There are no pictures of a basement remodel because I never did a basement remodel. The Forbidden Cremaster Collection turned out to be a very successful experimental internet artwork exploring the limits of appropriation in the early internet age, ultimately involving four different web sites and a major New York art gallery. Right now, the artifacts are either in a box in the garage or in the backyard shed. I still haven't put the final touch on the work yet. Thanks for reminding me. So, what is it exactly that you've done that no one else has done yet?

And after the work was removed from Ebay (I'd have to go back and look up whether it was I or eBay that removed the work, in either case I clearly remember responding to the gallery directly), another gallery in Brooklyn wanted to exhibit the artifacts, which I declined to do mostly because I would not have been able to attend the exhibit myself. Otherwise, here's one of the rooms I remodeled in my old house, designed and constructed all by myself. The work was completed in 1985, the photographs were taken in 1987. I wonder how many architects had two computer systems (one running 2D/3D CAD and pen plotter) in their house in 1987? It wouldn't surprise me if I was the only one on the planet at the time.

The first IKEA in the USA opened in 1986 just outside Philadelphia. I was there within the first week of it's opening and they weren't then selling any bookshelf like the one I had already built in 1985. tduds, is there anything within the realm of architecture that you've done that no one else has? Making judgments without knowing all the facts certainly isn't one of them.

Show us. And besides, what exactly does your work have to do with my work? How exactly are you and your work a standard by which to measure my work?

In terms of 'concept', I have linked to the work of Piranesi, Schinkel, Le Corbusier, James Stirling, Aldo Rossi/Eugene J. Johnson, Rem Koolhaas/OMA, and myself, all to illustrate the concept of transforming (which is the word used by Koolhaas to describe the process) one building design into another building design. You should take better care to get your facts straight.

No one said you have to show your work in this thread. You're not provoking me, you're trying to somehow disqualify me and my work. Why do you feel the need to do that?

Miles, you're lying again. You and tduds are the ones talking shit about my work. I haven't talked shit about the actual constructed work of others. You're the one that does that.

tduds and Miles, show us some of your built work. I'll be happy to talk shit about it.

Wasn't initially sure what you meant by Elements of Architecture. My first thought was Rob Krier's "Elements of Architecture" in Architectural Design 53 9/10-1983, which was a year later published as a separate book. But that's too obscure, so I googled Elements of Architecture and yes, the Koolhaas Venice Biennale byproduct. I have it in the individual pamphlet version, but I haven't been taken by it; virtual nothing seemed to inspire (certainly not the way SMLXL does). In general terms, I feel the whole endeavor would have been more effective as a web site. I'll try getting into it again.

An attack and a fight are not the same thing. I was attacked on several fronts, and all I did was to civilly respond. And I don't appreciate being labeled a bum or a homeless dude. I've worked very hard my whole life, and right now I'm in the midst of what is probably the hardest job of my life so far, taking round-the-clock care of a very unwell person that is presently getting slightly worst as each day goes by. And whatever I have accomplished within the realm of architecture I have done completely on my own. Just sayin'
