Morning misty clouds, wind W northerly, temperature 74°. Clouds soon broke, rose and disappeared and a hot sun broke out, temperature rose to 80°. About 1 S and SL arrived bringing me a letter from a Dr. F. Ridgely of Lexington giving me a very unfavorable account of the state of my son Samuel's health. At 1/2 past 1 P.S. Duponceau arrived, who was to accompany me to Easton as a committee of the Comm[?] of the Turnpike Road to meet at Gurlick's Hotel on the 27th inst.[?] I have other business also at Easton of some importance. I have considered as well as I could in the short time I have had, the propriety of my leaving home, and knowing nothing I could do by staying, for his comfort I concluded to go, hoping no inconvenience will arise and believing that having done my business there I may be more at liberty to write to and of my son upon my return, which I hope may be on Saturday evening[?]. We go to Willow Grove this evening, where the passengers breakfast tomorrow.

Started thinking that it's time for me to write about The Discovery of Piranesi's Final Project from my own perspective: what it's been like, what it means to me, what it means to history and contemporary culture, etc.
It dawned on me that I first 'discovered' Piranesi's final project at its very end, in that the second state of the Ichnographia Campus Martius is the last thing that Piranesi ever worked on.
