Vases, Candelabra, Grave Stones, Sarcophagi. Tripods, Lamps and Ancient Ornaments   volume II

To Mr. Carlo Morris, English Knight
Such an ancient perpetual light of admirable work must be placed on a magnificent round pedestal, in front of the Author's Tomb in the Church of the Certosa. The three Genj, who can be seen on foot, are in an act of mourning, with their wings resigned, and with their overturned torches in their hands. The triangular base supported by lion's paws, surrounded by winged sphinxes, dressed in stripes, with spiral, or meandering, tails which enclose baskets of flowers and shells; the three heads of rams protrude from them sphinxes, and demonstrate that they hold the round altar. Its circular base is carved over striae, intertwined threads, fronds and scales. The four heads of Fauns, or scenic masks alluding to the four genres of Poetry supported by framed support, also represent the four Ages of Man, or rather the four symbolic seasons of human life. The sciringa to the side of the mask, and the Pedo belong to the two heads of Fauns, depicted for Summer and Autumn. on the opposite side we see the figures of Fauns next to the Mask of Winter in the act of gathering pine cones, the last fruit of the season, symbol of the end of human life. The remainder of the work is a complex of ornaments of fronds, festoons and lion heads that surround the stem that holds the patera, all alluding to the productions of the earth, necessary for human life. This Lume or Lord could once be seen in humble pieces in the Palazzo of the Duke Salviati in Longara.

Re: ducked around ?
...you say "I would say history is already written, no way to reenact it," but written history is itself a reenactment in that those that write history either 'recollect' events that they themselves already experienced or it is written by people that never even experienced the events they write about.
The whole premise of Collingwood's The Idea of History is that for historians to more accurately write history they have (at least mentally) reenact the past events.
Also, the galaxies, etc. that we see in the night sky are all very much a view of the past (as in light [from] years ago), and, strictly speaking, not at all the future.
