Morning without a cloud, wind NW, very cold. After breakfast, I visited James Smith, cousin Hannah and her little daughter Sarah Fisher Smith b...... Thence I went among the carriage makers to buy one. SWF joined me at Peter Harvey's High Street where we found one that would suit me in all things but its gaiety; red Morocco lining, splendid lace etc. I concluded to seek further and we went to all the known carriage makers, saw many but none that upon the whole were solidly to suit me as that at Harvey's. It is ...., now about a year old well taken care of etc. SWF agreed to call again at Harvey's , order it to be turned out into the yard to be more carefully viewed when I should call on him at 3 PM. After dinner t SL's (where I learned that a proposal made last evening at the meeting of Counsel in writing to AJ Dallas had been accepted and the ship ordered to New Castle etc.). I went to SWF's with SL and thence we went to see the carriage late of T Ketland's left by his a....... in Harvey's R..... for sale at the price of $360. I concluded to buy it and SL, with the advise of SWF's agent to RE Griffith's agent for the A...... and bought it for $300. My carriage being in waiting to take me home, I gave directions to have something done to my new purchase at my expense, and sold the remains[?] of the other to Harvey for $40. I asked him what he would give me for my oldest one with which I was to return home. He said not more than $20. I told him I would keep it to l... as long as it would go and returned just at dusk. My horses have gone hitherto as quietly as before the late break. The wind had drawn this afternoon to SW and the air moderated.
